Dr. Bibitayo Ayobami Owolabi – Conservation Conference Impact
Dr. Bibitayo Ayobami Owolabi, a dedicated conservation biologist from Osun State University, was awarded a $150 travel grant to attend the 2024 Wildlife Society of Nigeria Annual Conference in Kano. His participation at the conference allowed him to present critical research on the Ayikunugba Waterfall Forest, a key conservation hotspot for avian species.
Project Highlights:
Dr. Owolabi's presentation on the significance of this unique forest for bird species conservation was one of the event's highlights. The research emphasized the biodiversity value of the area and the need for ongoing conservation efforts.
During his talk, Dr. Owolabi introduced Wildlife of Africa Conservation Initiatives (WACI), sharing how our grant made his participation possible. This resulted in increased recognition for WACI’s work in promoting biodiversity conservation.
The conference fostered valuable discussions with other conservation biologists, enhancing cross-institutional collaboration on pressing conservation issues in Nigeria.
Impact:
Dr. Owolabi's research contributed to greater awareness about critical conservation hotspots, leading to further invitations for collaboration with WACI at future conferences.
His networking with conservation professionals and biologists is expected to spark new research partnerships and biodiversity projects.
Dr. Owolabi shares:
"I sincerely want to appreciate WACI funded by A & F Wildlife Foundation Inc. for the honor of this travel grant. It came at the right time and enabled me to share my findings with a wider audience. The connections I made will significantly impact our conservation work in Nigeria."
